Dairy One is a cooperative of dairy farmers with their primary facilities located in Ithaca, New York, USA. Dairy One employs approximately 250 people, about 80 of them based in Ithaca. They are governed by a 16-member board of directors, all of whom are dairy farmers.
The mission of Dairy One is to deliver data and information which will be used to make profit-enhancing decisions for members of the agricultural community. They are meeting their missions through the operation of their Forage Laboratory, which has now been operating for almost 50 years. In this time, during the early 1980s, they began testing via NIR (Near Infrared Reflectance Spectrocscopy), which enables the processing of a large number of samples quickly, accurately and cost-effectively.
Gaining accurate results via NIR testing can only be accomplished with a strong calibration model; the more closely your sample spectra match those used to create the calibration, the more accurate your results. Dairy One has accomplished the creation of strong and robust calibrations through their analysis of hundreds of thousands of samples, enabling them to assemble a large sample database for NIR calibration development.
